When shopping for a perfume, you will commonly see the description broken down into three parts; top notes, middle notes, and base notes. Top notes describe the first phase of the scent as these are the most volatile, hence their appearance evaporates quickly from the skin.
Middle notes are therapeutic and balancing oils which are sometimes referred to as ‘heart notes’. This part of the fragrance is not immediately evident as they are overpowered by the top notes. After the top notes have evaporated, the scent of the middle notes develop on your skin and are present for about two to four hours.
